NSW Fisheries officers responded to a Fishers Watch report on 23 June 2021 where a known offender was found in possession of 67 tailor on board a boat in the Swansea Channel.

The fisher’s catch and esky was seized on inspection. The daily bag limit for tailor is 10 and the possession limit is 20.

Fisheries officers followed the boat back to Blacksmiths boat ramp where the man was apprehended. A short time later officers searched another boat returning to the ramp and located a bucket containing several prohibited size fish and a cast net.

A prosecution brief is being prepared and the man is expected to be issued court attendance notices for taking more fish than the daily limit and exceeding possession limits.

NSW DPI urged members of the public to report suspected illegal fishing activity by calling the NSW DPI Fishers Watch service on 1800 043 536 or report it online. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/compliance/report-illegal-activity

DPI says reports often lead to significant apprehensions and information provided is treated with confidence. In addition, all intelligence of value is analysed and used to plan future patrols.
