UPDATED 20 August 2021

FISHING is still allowed in NSW and is considered “exercise”. Under the rules for exercise, you must remain in your Local Government Area (LGA) or if outside your LGA, stay within 5km from home.

It’s best to check this website to clarify the borders of your LGA. In some areas, LGAs don’t extend past waterways.

You can fish with one other person or with members of your own household. If fishing with one other person outside the household, social distancing rules still apply.

Check NSW Police Marine Area Command Facebook’s page for regular updates.

If you live in one of the 12 “affected areas” in Sydney, the rules differ and you can only fish for “exercise” 5km from home and the LGA limit does not apply. “Recreation” is not permited in these affected areas, which means recreational boating is out.

Get out and enjoy your fishing; it’s a Covid safe activity. But take special note of the above rules to avoid heavy penalties.

What's your reaction?
